Artificial intelligence ('AI') is everything, everywhere, all at once, and it's happened so fast that it's hard to keep up... In writing these missives, I always worry about crossing the line between adding value versus contributing to the noise. It was easy “in the old days,” when there was no social media, and daily “newspaper columns” I wrote were about as noisy as things got.
With traditional software, we used to say "garbage in, garbage out." Now with generative AI, we have advanced technology so that we can achieve "value in, garbage out"!
You can try to put ChatGPT into the "loser categories" of MetaVerse, Crypto, and Meme Stocks if you like, but it might be in the categories of the Internet, Smart Phone, and Printing Press.
Every new technology category is not a 16 billion dollar bust like Facebook's Metaverse. Some are truly life changing, and ChatGPT/AI might be one of them.
I'm old enough to remember the "expert systems" hype of the 1980s. Those too were going to replace millions of jobs. Plus ca change.
